10 Pokemon-Like Play-to-Earn Games

Play-to-earn games set in the metaverse are growing in popularity these days, and it’s hardly surprising. Thanks to the latest developments, blockchain can be used for games.

This makes it possible – in a fairly simple and fun way – to earn money by gaming. Major game companies, such as Nintendo and Ubisoft, have already shown an interest in the concept of play-to-earn.

Now that the number of play-to-earn games is growing more and more, a frequently heard question is whether there will also be a Pokémon blockchain game. Pokémon has not yet entered the metaverse at this point (March 2022).

People behind Pokémon have indicated that they are interested in the metaverse and NFTs and see potential in this area, but they do not yet know how this can best be given shape in a game like Pokémon.

Alfred Kahn, the man who made Pokémon an international success, also regularly hints at the arrival of Pokémon NFTs in AMAs, but concrete plans don’t seem to be there at the moment, at least not that we know of.

Until then, however, there are other play-to-earn games that are inspired by, or very similar to, Pokémon, and are therefore interesting if you like Pokémon! In this blog we discuss 10 Pokémon-like play-to-earn games, looking at both games that have been out for a while and games that are still in development.

1. Axie Infinity

The first and most famous play-to-earn game inspired by Pokémon is Axie Infinity. First released in 2018, Axie Infinity already has around 2.8 million players per year and $3.6 trillion in trading volume in the single marketplace, making it the most popular blockchain game of 2021!

Axie Infinity is a metaverse full of fascinating creatures called Axie’sthat can be collected by players as pets. There are countless unique Axies with different body parts and appearances.

Players can take part in battles, daily quests, collect in-game items, breed, and build kingdoms with land. The items that can be collected in the Axie Universe can be traded in the internal marketplace, allowing players to earn real money. The two tokens used for this are Axie Infinity Shards (AXS) and Smooth Love Potion (SLP).

2. Illuvium

A promising game that has been built since 2020 is Illuvium. The metaverse of Illuvium offers a world of vast and varied landscapes with mysterious and combative creatures called Illuvials.

In the game, you take on the role of a spaceship survivor and investigate a devastated planet, with extreme weather conditions and exceptional climates. To unravel the mysteries of the planet, become a fighter, and travel across the landscapes to capture Illuvials. There are over 100 Illuvials in total to collect, made up of different elements and each with unique characteristics and abilities, making this game very reminiscent of Pokémon. Some Illuvials are easy to find, and others are rare. The Illuvials allow you to join battles in the game’s arenas and/or trade them to earn money. In addition, the opportunity is offered to use ILVtokens in the liquidity mining program, in order to get rewards.

As you can see in the trailer above, the quality of this game will be very good and the project already has a lot of fans on Discord and social media.

The game is scheduled to launch in mid-2022

. 3. Affyn

Affyn is a Pokémon GO-style game set in Nexus. Nexus is a mobile metaverse, adding a digital layer to the ‘real world’ where players can collect Buddies and participate in activities based on their geolocation. In this way, Affyn tries to combine the best of the real and virtual worlds.

Each Buddy has unique attributes and traits. Buddies can be trained to participate in quests, battles, work, and other activities. In addition, the game has many more options, such as buying land, buildings, and special benefits for holders of FYNtokens, the token that will be used in the game.

With this game, Affyn mainly wants to change the current game industry, in which huge amounts of money flow in without players benefiting from it. Affyn, therefore, offers a play-to-earn metaverse that allows players to earn from the game. Affyn has already won many major partners and the expectations of the game are high.

The game will be released sometime in 2022.

4. Chumbi Valley

Chumbi Valley is a new play-to-earn game inspired by Pokémon, among other things. This game is all about Chumbis: cute bipedal creatures that inhabit a lush and mysterious forest valley. Players and Chumbis can team up to earn crypto through farming, exploring, crafting, breeding, battling, fostering, and more.

The game will also build an online marketplace where you can buy or trade in-game items such as Chumbis, plots, crops, and more. The tokens used here are the Chumbi Token (CHMB) and Lucky Stars (LSTS) to power the play-to-earn reward system.

The great thing about Chumbi Valley is that it is free to play . You will then be paired with an Ancestor Chumbi who will help you on your journey. Ancestor Chumbis can help you with basic tasks, but cannot be sold or traded. Do you want this? Then you can buy a Chumbi.

The game is slated to be released in mid-2022.

5. Pixelmon

Pixelmon is a play-to-earn game based on Pokémon and Minecraft. Pixelmon is set in the world of Eden, where creatures called Pixelmons can be captured, collected, and traded. The goal of the game is to build a metaverse, where you can play with friends, train and battle Pixelmon, buy land, trade in-game items, and more. This way you can become a real Pixelmon trainer.

Pixelmon’s ecosystem will run on two tokens: a governance token and a utility token.

The vision of the team behind Pixelmon was to make the biggest game of the highest quality the NFT world has ever seen! There was a huge hype surrounding this project from the start. The collection of 10,000 Pixelmon NFTs sold out within an hour, with the NFTs being auctioned off at a descending price from 3 ETH (Dutch auction). However, quite a setback was after that when the Pixelmons were revealed; the art was quite disappointing and didn’t quite match what people expected. But take a look at the project and judge for yourself.

The game will be released around the end of 2022.

6. Binamon

Another Pokémon-inspired play-to-earn game is Binamon. Binamon is a metaverse full of digital monsters: Binamon. Binamons come in different types, classes, and properties.

The aim of the game is mainly to collect Binamon, trade them, battle with them to earn BMON tokens, and most importantly have fun while playing the game! The game also offers the possibility to stake or farm tokens.

The game was released in August 2021.

7. Revomon

Revomon is a new online role-playing metaverse that combines an immersive virtual reality experience with the groundbreaking technology behind NFTs. In this game, players can socialize with each other while hunting for wild Revolution Monsters (Revomon). According to the makers, Revomon can be seen as a combination of Pokémon Go and Axie Infinity.

Players can capture Revomon and then train within the VR environment, interacting with various elements. Furthermore, quests, competitions, and tournaments will be held in the game.

The game itself combines VR experiences such as grab, throw, shoot and move freely with innovations enabled by blockchain technology, such as NFTs, play-to-earn, a governance token (REVO), and staking.

The game will be released in mid-2022.

8. Untamed Isles

Untamed Isles offers a metaverse consisting of several islands filled with monsters to hunt and tame. The islands are constantly expanding and each has its own mysteries and unique factors, with new monsters. Monsters consist of different body parts and types so that endless combinations can be created.

In this world, every day will be a new adventure. The islands are full of experiences that are constantly evolving and have varying weather systems and seasons, which means that different monsters can be found depending on this. Monsters can not only be tamed, but you can also battle, breed, and trade them with them. In addition, there are even more activities to do, such as daily and weekly missions, and you can also practice different professions.

With this game, Untamed Isles tries to approach crypto-related gaming in a new way, whereby the following applies: ‘Game first, Crypto second’. Because not all players want to use crypto, it has been decided to make the game playable, without the need for crypto. However, the vast majority of in-game items, monsters, and other collectibles can also be tokenized and traded in the game’s internal marketplace or through other channels. So this is a win-win situation!

The game will be released in 2022.

9. Kryptomon

Kryptomon is a play-to-earn game based on Pokémon, Tamagotchi, and CryptoKitties. The Kryptomon metaverse started with 50,000 eggs that spawned the so-called Kryptomon. A Kryptomon is a digital pet on the blockchain that needs to be cared for and trained.

Each Kryptomon has a unique genetic code consisting of 38 different elements that determine the appearance up to the powers of your Kryptomon. Like a real pet, Kryptomons need attention and if you don’t give it, they will ‘freeze’. To ‘thaw’ them, special items are needed that are available in the internal marketplace, where the in-game items can be traded. The matching token for this is Kryptomon (KMON). Players can earn KMON by completing quests and daily quests. You can also breed and trade your Kryptomon.

Players can also battle each other as ‘trainers’ with their Kryptomon. Kryptomons are not born with the strength and skill needed to battle. Every Kryptomon Trainer will therefore have to spend time training their Kryptomons to level up and make them as good as possible. Both team and duel battles are possible.

10. EvoVerses

EvoVerses, not to be confused with Evoverse, is a new Pokémon-style play-to-earn game and is still in development. The game revolves around mysterious and fabulous creatures: Evos. Players can buy, sell, rent, and battle and breed Evos.

Other in-game items planned are land plots, houses, and items such as furniture, clothing, and cosmetics for both the player and the Evos.

EvoVerses strives for a perfect combination of DeFi and GameFi. To achieve this, the EvoVerses team is working on a game with realistic graphics and fun cartoons that tell the story of EvoVerses, as well as having a DEX and liquidity pool. The game will contain two tokens: EVO, the governance token, and LNX, the in-game token.

Conclusion

This article discusses 10 play-to-earn games that are inspired by, or very similar to, Pokémon. These games have a lot in common: whether they’re called Axie’s, Pixelmon, Binamon, Revomon, or Chumbi’s, or Evos, they’re all reminiscent of Pokémon. The nice thing, however, is that all these games all have their own unique characteristics and developments, so there is plenty of choices.

We are therefore curious to see how these games will develop further in 2022 and beyond. And of course, we still have to wait for a real Pokémon metaverse play-to-earn game!
